Zowie... another weekend passes in a blink. EL and I drove to scenic Fredericksburg this weekend and became gluttonous Snitzlevores. The town is famous for it's German subculture that begs tourist attention. We ate and drank and were merry home based from my sister's apartment. Saturday we did the outdoor thing and climbed Enchanted Rock. There is a lone tree at the summit with a moon for an eye.
Unlike many places in Texas, Fredericksburg sports a open container clause to local legislation that allows you to drink freely in the streets as you peruse the local shops and such. You may even carry out unfinished wine, beer, etc. from restaurants and continue to imbibe as you walk about. It's quite refreshing.
update 7:55 pee emm... original:
Very nice - good composition. Nice to see wide open space as well. Funny, I’d been thinking of Texas as urban sprawl recently, forgetting how big it actually is…
:) I love the quiet of that spot, bigtime! Great shot!
Lisa - yeah, it’s like a 4 hour drive from my house to my sisters and we haven’t even crossed half the state… I remember when I moved my stuff from my home town to New York, it was a 12 hour drive out of the state and I didn’t even live as far south as the border… big big BIG.
Michael - I think that’s the only tree on top. Very cool spot… especially when no one is around.
The wide open spaces is one of the things I miss most about Texas, living in the urban sprawl that is Los Angeles. Fall/Winter in Texas seems to accentuate this with its clear, crisp skies (or ginormous thunderheads) unoccluded by a bazillion power lines and planes or copters buzzing about.
Nice picture, C. Reminds me of home.
thanks bro… the jpeg compression and resize on this one for the web really kills it… it looks like ass compared to the original. I’ll make you a print. ;-)
Man, this is a gorgeous photo (I’m not trolling for a print, hee)...I’m setting up a site for a friend, and we’ve been looking at stock photo sites trying to come up with an acceptable image to use.
If he digs this one, can we borry it (fully credited, of course)?
I don’t see why not. This is actually cropped from a horizontal shot that I like much better. I’ll post it later this evening when I return to my little cave.
"Heeeey, yeah! Bark at the moon!”
I fell down Enchanted Rock. Not all the way down, of course, but at this moment, I wish that I had because that would be a really great story.
Enchanted Rock is beautiful. I am envious you went without me. Did you guys find the caves on the top?
no… I’ve seen them before though
I like these photos very much.
I can’t wait to experience the joys of the open container in Fredericksburg next month. Thanks for the tip!
Lurve me some Fredericksburg. Climbed Enchanted Rock two summers ago - mid July at noon. I think it must have been some old Indian tradition to prove manhood - ? *grin*. Maidenhood?
On Valentine’s Day, will try to get to Hondo’s for Willis Allen Ramsey. On Main Street. They only sell 150 tickets, so I am reticent about telling my little secret....
Thanks for the gorgeous pics!
