Ugh! Can’t sleep. Last night

Ugh! Can't sleep. Last night was a little stressful... Henry's first trip to the emergency room. He almost broke his foot in our back utility door. It gravity swings shut and when I went out back to put some chicken on the grill, he ran trying to beat the door closed (he had been playing out back). His right paw got caught under the bottom of the door as it swung. The whole thing happened in an instant. He was screaming. I was freaking out. EL was out picking up a couple bottles of wine at the store, so I grabbed the keys and started dialing on the cell as the little wounded man and I raced toward the vet. After all was said and done, he is ok. He didn't seem to break the bone, but he is bruised. He got some pain killers and his next installment of puppy meds... and a lot of extra TLC (if that is possible). He weighed in at the hospital at a whoppin' 4.05 pounds! He is growing like a weed! I'm headed downtown. I have to grab shit out of my office before going to the photo shoot. Have a great morning!

omg *sob* how awful for him!  (And for you, I might add!) Goodness, sometimes I think it’s harder for me to see my dogs hurt than my children!  My kids are teenagers so they whine more than their share, but those poor snooches don’t whine a bit unless something is really wrong.  It doesn’t help that they weight 85lbs each and kick me out of my own bed sometimes… I hurt for them no matter what size they are.

I guess you’re in for your next round of trauma when it’s time to give him the meds.  My black lab has back problems to I have to give him Rimadyl all the time and he can spot a pill at 500 paces so it’s no use trying to hide it in food.  I have to stick it in his mouth and clamp it shut enough that he can’t spit it out but can still breathe.  Eventually, it starts breaking down on his tongue so he’ll swallow but I hate doing it.  If you’re forced down this avenue, try rubbing his throat to induce swallowing.  I hope they gave you some valium or something for you and EL getting that kind of scare!

Just don’t let him have any wine while he’s on the painkillers.
