They don’t make pills for a broken heart.
With over 10,000 SETI work unit processed and no aliens buying me drinks at the local pub, I've decided to switch to folding proteins with my spare clock cycles.
"With your feet in the air and your head on the ground. Try this trick and spin it, yeah. Your head will collapse, but there's nothing in it... and you'll ask yourself... Where is my mind?" I woke up this morning with my back and neck in serious pain. I remember the summer EL and I were married, I was having these muscle spasms in my upper back due to office ergonomics or some such hooty. EL made me go to the doctor and have it checked out. He prescribed a laundry list of muscle relaxers and pain killers (Flexoril, Vicodin, etc.) to get me through the wedding and into physical therapy. I never made it to therapy, but alleviation of the symptomatic pain for an extended period was enough to fix me up. The spasms went away and I haven't had trouble with it again until recently. I really don't want to go to the doc over this because I'm not willing to take the time to attend physical therapy anyway, so why waste his time, mine, and the insurance company's money? I dug around the medicine cabinet looking for something that might help. I had the standard OTC fair... acetaminophen, ibuprofen, naproxen sodium, etc. Nothing that was going to be worth ingesting. I remembered the little Cloud Nine pellets EL was prescribed when she broke her pelvic bone in January. Oxycodone in layman's terms is medical grade heroin light. I decline further comment at this time. Regardless of which pain reliever I can neither confirm nor deny consuming, I am now, after a fabulous lunch, a few gallons of coffee, and some time up and around, feeling much better.
Nanotechnology is cool.
I stopped by my new office building after lunch to check it out after the build completion. We are scheduled to move into the facility in a couple of weeks. It's quite nice by comparison to my current office however, I'll be back in a cube after years in a private office. I don't mind much. I'm fairly quiet and don't really care much about privacy as long as the general office area is secure from theft, etc. I mean, it's not like I can masturbate at my desk or anything. ba-dum-dum... chang! If all goes as planned, my new view will be of lush up-close-in-yo-face greenery... a vast improvement over my current view of distant greenery. I'm all about the greenery. Speaking of, my Sago Palms that Beth gave me are so happy they are sprouting new leaves like crazy! Conversely, the Plumeria she gave me is being eaten by something and I've still not been able to catch or deter whatever this ninja insect might be from it's demolition directive. The only down side to the new building is that one of my current clients is also leasing space on another floor of the same facility. I hope that doesn't turn into them swinging by every day with some new question or problem for me since I'm so "close". My boss's boss approached me about printing some large photos from my collection of crap for the wall art. That might be cool since I wouldn't be forking over the ducats to fund the printing and framing.
Getting to the root of WHY you have back probs is often worth it. I took oxycontin for about 3 years after my back injury, then they put me on kadian. Still morphine but I didn’t feel so out of it.I still have back problems but no med for it anymore.
Hope you feel better. Back problems are a bitch!
Your neck and upper back pain may be the result of an alement (that’s right - alement: when it hurts, I drink) called bone spurs or osteophytes. I’m quiet familiar with them as I’ve been living with the diagnosis by well over 15 years. Mine are on the front of my vertebrae cervicales. If you’ve ever had any sort of trama to your upper back or neck, you too could be a candidate for this condition. Some days are better than others, but in general it’s a pain. In my case, the only answer is surgery which I have been avoiding. I’m told (by wizards who have chosen the medical field as their profession) that if they are caught early enough, physical therapy can help. I prefer liquid therapy, but then that’s just me.
Another round please!!!
Adios,
Just Joe
Nothing worse than back problems. Mine creep up only after a long day of strenuous manual labor. A few vicodin and I’m off in la-la land.
Cube world isn’t too bad if you don’t mind interacting with coworkers and knowing all of their business (and having them know all about yours). I always joke that I’m going backwards, because my first job had me sitting in a private office with a nice large window. My second job had me sitting in a cube, but next to a nice large windowoverlooking a pond with a large tree right against the windowso I could watch the squirrels. My third job had me in a cube facing a window, but not right next to it. And my current position has me in a cube with no view whatsoever. So, at this rate, my next position should have me sitting in a cube inside the bathroom or something.
For the back: Chiropractor, der. Just good for your overall well-being and immune system function, d00d. If you are interested, I bleeve I can hook you up with a great one in your area; gimme a call.
For the plumeria: Mix one part Dr. Bronner’s peppermint soap with three parts water, spritz the fleurs and leaves a couple-three times a week. Safe, effective pest control.
You rule, rock, and all that hommina.
OK, let’s make it three diagnosisesess, shall we? I do periodically get similar back and shoulder problems and like you speculated, sometimes they just need time and the lack of pain to make them go away. Sitting in the same way, especially at a computer makes it very difficult for it to resolve itself. I’m convinced that they do go away without treatment if you can just stop being at a desk or whatever or can somehow stop the pain that makes you continually tense up in response. I also tried the physical therapy (and chiropractor - sorry Jett!) route to no avail.
Maybe it’s because I work from home now and get up and move around more than I used to that I rarely have back problems any more.
If your plumeria is outside this time of year, it is losing its leaves. Plumerias do not like temps below 55 because they are tropical. Take it in the house and put it in a dark corner. It will lose all its leaves, look dead, and turn into an ugly stick. In the spring, put it back outside, feed it, and it will immediately start growing leaves and possibly blooming.
Yoga does wonders for back pain. So does acupuncture.
Lisa, no offense taken. Chiros are just like every other doctor. There are good ones and shit ones. Sometimes it’s just a matter of weeding out to find an effective provider.
and pee ess...you weren’t too far off the mark: The body is a largely self-correcting system and wants to be given every opportunity to do so. So ding-ding, all today’s points are yours.
