I am still smiling with movie satisfaction. This film reminded me so much of Cinema Paradiso (by Giuseppe Tornatore)... one of my all time favorites. It's an Italian film about a famous director returning home (after decades away) to see people and places from his childhood... bringing back memories from his past. Without writing a full review, I can say that Cinema Paradiso covers the range of human emotion and is a film about the human spirit and our interaction with one another. Y Tu Mama Tambien shares this genre. I read a while back that Miramax is re-releasing Cinema Paradiso... gawd I hope they don't fuck it up with poor choice of "never before seen footage" (you must read that in that guy's voice that does all the movie trailers these days... you know who I'm talking about). At least it's Giuseppe's original work and not a remake... I mean, come on, it's Miramax. I'm sure it'll be Ben Affleck and Matt Damon, you know? They put 'em in a bunch of movies.

Like I told you before (in the message before this) I saw the film last year… and IS SOOOO KOOL!!! (but, dot believe averything that you see in the mexican movies ok?? LOL…
I finally saw “Amelie” this weekend. Really cool. And saw that Inuit film, “the Fast Runner” on Friday at the Dobie. Much better than I expected.
Since we’re talking about obscure, foreign, indie cinema.
I havent seen “amelia” but I will… :o) (I’ll have to rent it, since is from the last year 2)
I don’t know the details, but Cinema Paradiso does in fact have a whole lot of new footage for the re-release. I believe that something like 45 minutes has been added.
I heard 51 minutes were added to the director’s cut, so maybe some of that is incorporated into the new release… just so long as they don’t mess it up. It’s such a great film. I did read that the story of what actually happened to Elena was added and also they stuck in the clip of Salvatore losing his virginity along with some random inconsequential scenes to the main story that originally were cut for time constraints. We’ll see…
"Y Tu Mama Tambien” was my the best movie I have seen this year. Loved it.
