Shit Sammich

We weathered the storm. EL went through a huge effort of making preps for the worst. I put plywood over windows as best I could, but the real preparation kudos goes to my wife. She had the house ready for a direct hit. I have been generally disenchanted with social interaction of recent, so if I haven't returned your calls, please don't take it personally. Actually, I left my phone turned off for most of the weekend for no other reason that I don't care to talk to anyone... about anything. I'm not usually like this... I just need a break from the human race. Since I can't jet off to vacation somewhere remote, I have commenced hermitizing myself this week. The storm littered our hood with debris. I think a home or two caught a tree, but we were fortunate. I spent most of the weekend drunk. We kept power with the exception of a couple brownouts and a 5 minute blackout. The two extended losses of Internet connectivity were the suck. Suburbia proper was a f00kin ghost town. Things are settling back to normal today. I'm at work (yay! not.) and sleepy per usual. I even went to sleep before 9:00 last night and still feel like I didn't rest at all. Coffee to the rescue.

I know that feeling!  We finally decided to leave town on Friday… amazingly everybody else had already gone and we had 290 all to ourselves!  TONS of dead cars along the way.  Glad you are ok.  Left with massive hangovers here… much better than catching a tree, tho!

My husband, who is from California, was psyched that we were actually going to see SOME sort of action… in Ft. Worth.  He watched CNN endlessly and was really down that we didn’t at least get a good storm out of it.  Sunday morning I went to McD’s and I noticed that the few wind gusts we got sort of ripped a banner at the Moose Lodge.
Don’t get me wrong, though… there’s nothing humurous about what has happened during the last few weeks.

I found this page by searching google for “fuck monday”.

Good job!

Yes, I have a big red “I TOLD YOU SO!” stamped across my forehead in bright flashing blue neon lights…yup, I nagged and nagged until C boarded up the house and then some.

Fortunately, I have a husband who does not revel in such things…or at least not to my face!  He said we would be fine and he was right.  All the work and effort was for not.

Outside of a few scattered pine needles with a small twig or two strewn about, we received no wrath from the hurricane.  Not even enough rain to justify turning off the sprinkler system.  For the safety and protection, I am truly thankful.  The little winds we did have were just high enough to bring down a few of the larger branches out of the trees which have been needing to come down for quite some time – so in that sense, the wind saved us some tree trimming money.

Barrett, as always, was great company and made some darn good (and stiff) drinks!  The three of us had a great time together – we ate, drank and were merry throughout.

Perhaps some enterprising, if odd, potential film student made use of all the free “production value” and went out to shoot some armageddon short film out on the highway full of dead cars and evacuation.

I could happen.

A couple guys I went to school with at CalArts got their asses sent packing by a team of firefighters who didn’t think it was cool they were using a Valencia brush fire as an impromptu backdrop for their ninja movie.  It made for a great shot though.
