Oh, and one more thing…

I originally intended on writing last night about Plan B. How I ended up with that other drivel is beyond me, but I'll keep this short because I have to go to work. I am floored by the decision to make Plan B so readily available. Any woman over the age of 18 will be able to purchase it over the counter at your friendly neighborhood drugstore with no questions asked? Whiskey Tango Foxtrot, over? All arguments about abortion aside, it is not and never should be used as a form of birth control. This is a terrible thing that is happening. That is all.

I totally agree.  I couldn’t believe what I read in the paper a few days ago.  I can buy it at the drug store like cough drops or even a 12 pack of coke?!  You’ve got to be kidding me!!!  What is this world coming to that convenience trumps both safety and sanity?

Although I have a feeling we might be on opposite ends of the whole abortion issue, I agree with you that Plan B shouldn’t be so readily available.  I feel that, while everyone has the right to choose what’s best for your current lifestyle, you shouldn’t be able to walk to the corner drugstore and abort a fetus right then and there.  This is something that should involve a doctor and a counselor, just to make sure you know exactly what you’re doing.

I think this is going to give kids another excuse to have wreckless and unprotected sex, knowing that should something happen, they can pick up some Plan B and “everything will be okay”.

Anyhow.

I know a young girl that had several abortions (yes, *several*), and found that in debates on the issue I found myself qualifying my pro-choice arguments from distaste from it being used in such a way.

But several years later, that young lady is now happily married to a great fella, and about to give birth to their first child.  She is in such a better place now to be a parent financially and emotionally, and with a partner to lean on that it has me rethinking things.

It really comes down to when you believe life begins.  I personally don’t believe that is conception, or within the few days just after - but its definitely subjective and I sympathize with other views on it.

Folks,

Regardless of how you feel about the issue, please check your facts before jumping to conclusions.  Directly from the Plan B website: “Plan B® is not RU-486 (the abortion pill); it will not work if you are already pregnant.”

I understand that it isn’t RU-486, but if we lower our standards to allowing Plan B to be sold over the counter it’s moving us closer and closer to allowing something like RU-486 to be readily available as well.  At what point do we stop?  The “convenience” of it is going to push the issue harder and harder.
