Joe and I had a sobering discussion on the way to work. There are rumors flying around about more layoffs in my company. I am in a fairly vital position and not terribly concerned, but when you hear these things it gets you thinking. The high end/enterprise level networking industry is not doing well in Houston right now. If anything were to happen to my employment status, there's a good chance I would have to move to find comparable work (read: salary). Which started me thinking. I'm single with no children. I could live anywhere in the world. Where would I go? Realistically, this has a lot to do with work, but if the employment prospects were equal in all places non-Houston, I think I would really have a hard time narrowing my list. The world is so big and we are here for such a short period of time. It's a shame, really.

We’re having huge layoffs at my company at the moment.  I like to think I’m vital, but the truth is that no is vital at the moment.  I’m sort of in “wait and see” mode.  I don’t see business picking up any time in the future, though.  Is is depressing.

Here too.  Thank God hubby has a job that, with the bad economy, will only get busier (actually, that is not a good thing, but you know what I mean)!

Indianapolis...That simple…

Don’t you have to be a farmer to work in Indiana?

;-)

Indiana????  What is this, a bad episode of Smallville?  Shall we farm now?  Just kidding, pa.  Think global, baby.  Personally, I’d prefer it if you stayed in town, but that’s just me - you need to do what is best for you.  My opinion, make sure you are HAPPY, happiness means more than wealth.  And when you leave town let Irfan and I take care of your house.  Cool, yes?

You can’t live in INdiana unless you’re Amish.

I can testify that Atlanta’s a cool place to live.  Fun music scene.  But damn, if you’re going anywhere, why not San Francisco?

Lisa  on  09/30  at  03:17 PM

Like you say, the world is big - why limit it to the states? The salary isn’t going to be as good anywhere else, I’m sorry to say, but you can find trade-offs of all sorts, n’est pas?

May I suggest London as a suitable destination for a man of your prospects? ;-)

clayton  on  09/30  at  03:44 PM

Lisa  on  10/01  at  01:37 AM
