It’s impressive, that’s for sure. Now, if they’d just fucking make it worth NVIDIA’s time to writedrivers for their fastest boards it would be a viable platform for what I do.
A buddy of mine that owns an up-and-coming previz company really wants to switch to all G5s. They’re a Maya house, so that’s all good, but they do almost everything realtime. He’s a Renderman guy that writes Cg (that NVIDIA shading language) now so they have to have boards with lots of lead in their pencils. They’re all Quadro at the moment on the machines they’ve got but the best you can get for the Mac is an FX5200 with only 64M of VRAM. Doh!
