I had a great weekend
I had a great weekend that was entirely too short. Friday night, EL and I went to the hockey game... what a complete disappointment. The Chicago Wolves were clearly a superior team. Their defense made a complete laughing stock of the Houston Aeros. I certainly hope the Aeros were having an off night, because Chicago made them look like chumps... repeatedly. After the game, we had dinner at home before meeting Harry and his wife at Baker's Street Pub in the village. The band was good, but it was too crowded and loud to converse comfortably, so we headed across the street to Little Woodrow's. Great time. Saturday was a mix of Moody Gardens and Kemah boardwalk. We had dinner at the Aquarium in Kemah. It was pretty cool, but not what I expected. The entrees were delicious, but the desert sucked. The restaurant was too bright and way, way to loud. If you're going to take your kids out to eat, be a fucking responsible parent... mmmkay? Saturday night was pretty cool. EL and I stayed home and played trivia games... I dig trivia. My mind is cluttered with useless trivia. Sunday was quiet... errands and weather enjoyment. I wish this weekend's weather could stay year round. This morning has been acceptably slow... giving me time to search out and find coffee since the water to our coffee machine has gone the way of the dodo until further notice.
Sounds like a good weekend!
interesting… as the Aeros won
I left with less than 9 minutes in the last period and they were down 2 to 1… that must have been some comeback!
especially since they fucking sucked for the first 2 periods of the game…
Here’s the scoop:
AEROS SHOOT DOWN WOLVES, 4-3, IN OT
03/07/2003
HOUSTON---The Houston Aeros exacted revenge for Friday night’s overtime loss on the Chicago Wolves at the Compaq Center last night, skating for over 63 minutes without leading before defenseman Lawrence Nycholat scored in overtime to seal the game for the Aeros, 4-3.
Chicago (31-23-7-4) has battled in overtime against Houston five times in the teams’ last six matchups.
Houston (40-17-7-3) was victorious for the first time in its last four games.
“We played really hard, but we had way too many penalties to keep afloat,” said Head Coach John Anderson. “I thought we deserved a better fate tonight. I guess when you look at the big picture we earned three points [in two games] against a first-place team, and we’re battling for second place. It’s pretty good, but we’d have liked to get four.”
Nycholat’s game-winner came when he sneaked past Chicago’s defenders and tucked the puck behind Wolves netminder Frederic Cassivi 3:07 into overtime.
Cassivi (5-5-1-2) stopped 26 of 30 shots in his first Wolves start since Jan. 29.
Wolves right wing J.P. Vigier opened the scoring, 1-0, early in the second period. Aeros goaltender Frederic Cloutier stopped the initial shot by right wing Rob Brown, but sent the rebound directly to a wide-open Vigier, who slipped the puck underneath Cloutier at 1:48 of the middle frame.
Cloutier (4-3-2) posted 11 saves before being replaced by Derek Gustafson (21-11-2), who stopped 17 shots, at 11:05 of the second period.
Chicago extended its lead, 2-0, 14:22 into the second period when center Andreas Karlsson sent a behind-the-back pass to a waiting left wing Steve Maltais, who rifled it inside the far goalpost and behind Gustafson.
The Aeros cut the Wolves’ advantage in half, 2-1, on the power play just over a minute later when left wing Ratislav Pavlikovsky redirected Nycholat’s shot from the point at 15:26 of the middle stanza.
Houston knotted the score, 2-2, when center Dan Cavanaugh grabbed a pass from center Marc Cavosie and deposited it behind Cassivi at 12:08 of the third period.
Karlsson gave the Wolves a 3-2 edge at 16:09 of the third frame. Defenseman Mike Weaver’s initial shot was blocked and fell to the ice before Karlsson poked it in from a scrum in front of the Aeros’ net.
Aeros center Mark Cullen sent the game into overtime, 3-3, when he tipped Nycholat’s shot past Cassivi at 18:23 of the third period.
The Wolves return to the Allstate Arena tonight at 7:00 p.m. against the Milwaukee Admirals.
