I am in serious disrepair.
I am in serious disrepair. I woke up this morning and couldn't move my head... almost. I had a splitting headache that was dwarfed in painal comparison to my neck and back ache. There was no way I could make it to work on time. I lethargically crippled my way to the computer and shot my boss an email stating my tardiness was inevitable and managed to slink into the kitchen and munch on more pain killer than I probably should have before starting the triple-S ritual. Man... pain. I finally left around 8:30. A major accident on I-45 had all lanes at a stand-still for a while, but shortly after 9:00, my mug showed in the workplace. I still hurt... immensely. Last night was coolio. EL picked me up from Blanco's after work because she was still framing one of the rooms in the house (which looks awesome btw) and needed some time. We headed over to The Laff Stop for Dane Cook's gig. There was the traditional host bit... which was funny... and then there was the opener... which was hilarious... then Dane... 90% new material, 10% old faithful... good stuff. The opener was extremely good. He should be headlining his own shows. I can't remember his name. Damn. The office is eerie this morning. Some guys are taking personal days and some are out on locations doing design implementation, so it's a skeleton crew here. One of the guys that has already been told the axe hit him came by my desk to shake my hand and tell me it was a pleasure working with me. He looked like he was tearing up. I'm not feeling well enough for emotional trauma today. A few of us are going to take him to lunch and see him off. He is a great guy and a fantastic employee that's been with the company over 25 years. I don't get how that layoff decision was made, but then again, I don't understand a lot of things that go on here. I don't really have much to say this morning.
Well, maybe "ouch".
Well, maybe "ouch".
I really hate layoffs. Sadly they are becoming as common in sentences about the IT world as punctuation. So sick of it - loads of good people out there out of work or being underpaid.
When I went to the dealie with the mayoral candidates I asked “What are your plans to revitalize the IT industry in Houston”. You submit your questionson little cards, and my question was not asked in favor of questions about roads, metro, cops and firefighters. I wish I would have phrased it differently - perhaps “what are your plans to being business into Houston to fill the void of Enron and others - and how do you plan to weather the storm of the current sluggish economy?”, but I had been getting my drink on.
Sad man, in order to have roads and cops and statues we first must deal with the layoff syndrome. People who don’t make money don’t spend money, nor do they pay taxes. The trend of pushing our work to 3rd world countries will simply not help the country - it will pad the pockets of the rich and prolong this problem.
All I can say is, pour me another Mackeson.
You talk as a proletariat, but you sir, are management.
Good. Day.
(juuuuuust kidding.)
Ha!
You one funny guy. Ha!
ouch.
Layoffs suck, but they have to look at the good of the many over the good of the few. Right now it sucks for everyone! I would prefer to keep all employees, but it is hard to do so in these economic times.
i had a headache this AM too
