That’s so great!  Your dream has become a reality.

statia  on  02/13  at  07:17 AM

I bet you guys are so freakin’ excited.  Like Christmas morning when you’re 7.  :o)

Leesa  on  02/13  at  08:10 AM

Wondering what the countdown was all about!  Yeah for you Clayton.

Jimnice  on  02/13  at  08:22 AM

That is absolutely outstanding!  I am so happy for you, bro!!  Mazol tov!!!

Greg  on  02/13  at  10:48 AM

Awesome.  I’ve been killing myself trying to figure out what all those numbers were for.  Figured I’d missed the post where you told everyone.

EL is gorgeous and you guys are going to have a blast living together.  I went a year with the long distance relationship thing and it was the worst experience ever.  Thing is, if you can make it through a long distance relationship, you can pretty much make it through anything.  Like paying off those credit cards that you used to try to visit her all the time.

My, now wife, visited SF once before making the big move out here.  Congrats.

I was wondering what the countdown was all about.  I figured it was one or the other moving.  Congratulations to the two of you...you are such a cute couple.  It is so refreshing to see a guy who is evidently so much in love like you are and not afraid to tell the whole world about it.  Best of luck to the both of you!!  :)

Lisa  on  02/13  at  01:33 PM

woohoo! I figured it was something like that. So, could you just not hold onto the news until the last number? ;-)

pippa  on  02/13  at  02:02 PM

ooh! So that’s what it was. Good for you two! Grendel and I did the LD thang for almost 3.5 years and boy, did that suck. Good for you for just getting on with things! Best of luck!

c  on  02/13  at  02:05 PM

cori - thanks… the whole romance seems tainted with a little fairy tale surrealism that makes it seem like a dream

statia - we’re both a giggly and giddy like Christmas morning 7 year olds on nitrous oxide

leesa - yeah, i just wasn’t ready to blog it

jimbo - thanks dude… it’s all mojitos and no stale Thai

greg - i never posted about it… i wanted to wait and make sure i wasn’t imagining it. heh.

lisa - thanks for the compliment

lisa - oh yeah… i already gave her the valentine gift i got for her because waiting one more day until friday was just too much. i’m terrible like that. this calls for a pint! the Guinness is flowing… where are you at?! i’m buying!

pippa - 3.5 years! wow! i think i would go insane. these last several months have been tremendously difficult… and i was flying to see her every week.

c  on  02/13  at  02:06 PM

thanks for all the kind congrats.

i’m sorry i’ve been such a lazy ass about posting… things are stressful at work and i’ve been giving all my free time to EL… i’ll get back into the swing of it soon…

Jett  on  02/13  at  02:10 PM

I was WONDERING when you were gonna go public with this!

I figgered you may spring it TOMORROW, however.

c  on  02/13  at  02:14 PM

why?

valentine’s day is a poor excuse for people to be romantic one day a year instead of every day… i try not to succumb to that affliction. it’s truly an epidemic relationship disability. my baby gets all the romance i gots ta give… 24/7/365! (however small that may be)

10 seemed like a good number to start a public countdown. you know… traditional and all…

heh.

I’m just a long time lurker, who enjoys your wry wit, and who reads often.

I’ve often thought how truly uplifting it is to feel the depth of your love for your beautiful EL, merely through your words.

You and EL are beautiful looking people individually, and twice as beautiful together.

I wish you many, MANY years of bliss.

gnome-girl  on  02/14  at  09:03 AM

Congrats you two.  You give the rest of us hope

may all the happiness in the world be owned by you :)

How exciting!!!

Happy Valentines Day for you BOTH!

A Valentine’s wish for my best bud c and his beloved EL:  All right EL, I know we haven’t met yet, but I know you read c’s blog, so LISTEN UP!  I am very happy for you two, hope you have many happy… whatever together, always nice to see a couple in love… yada yada.  But fair warning: I’ve been down this road with c before.  And if you break his heart, I’ll kick your ass.  It’s not that I give a shit about Clayton or his feelings.  It’s not that c and I have about the best friendship anyone could ever ask for.  This is about ME.  Because who will have to do emotional damage control afterward?  Me.  Who will have to listen to Clayton go through another 18-month “women suck” phase?  Me.  Who will get guilted into increasing his debt in order to visit c’s poor depressed sobbing broken-hearted ass half way across the country? Me.  Who will have to put together a care package from Trader Joe’s full of c’s favorite delicious yum-yum’s in a pathetic attempt to provide some small amount of solace for his wounded, trampled, and trodden emotions?  Me.  Who will have to be constantly vigilant to distract poor c by pouring him another drink, and another, and another, every time the smallest little thing: a song on the radio, a menu item in a restaurant, a flower, a movie, a comment from a stranger, or a girl who resembles you; reminds him of how miserable, worthless and empty his life has become in your absence until he is wallowing in a drunken stupor, unable to stand or walk, foaming at the mouth and offending the bartender while I bribe the bouncer not to throw his ass in the street; and having to keep his breath away from open flame to avoid torching the joint?  Me.  Who will have to sit through hours upon hours in strip clubs with c, surrounded by beautiful naked women, buying him lap dances, trying to rekindle his interest in the pleasures of the fairer sex, only to remind him how much he misses you and sending him into uncontrolled sobbing and having to tip the stripper extra and assure her it wasn’t anything she did?  Me.  Who will have to take c on a gambling spree in Vegas: frivolously risking large sums of cash at Craps and Blackjack, indulging in that city’s decadent culinary offerings and lavish entertainment options, surrounded by bright lights, glamour, phenomenal architecture, and free flowing liquor: repeatedly and with wreckless abandon?  Me.  So EL, could you please not put me through that?  Or if you do, would you at least have the decency to move to Los Angeles first?  I’m a busy man.  I don’t have time for all that.  Thanks.  That would be great.  Oh yeah, Happy Valentine’s Day!

c  on  02/14  at  09:41 AM

thanks j-man!

man, am I glad you’re not the least bit dramatic and never exaggerate… just like i’m never sarcastic…

snoochies!

2 nubs are better than 1
Happy VD, I think 10 was the perfect time to go public!

Lisa  on  02/14  at  12:01 PM

Clayton...I’ll take a Sauza Diablo instead, if that’s ok!
EL is one lucky woman!  What did you get her for Valentine’s Day?

c  on  02/14  at  12:37 PM

a ring…

there is a cute little antique shop in colorado springs that has a tiny coffee shop bistro in the back. since we first met, we have gone there together to sit and talk over coffee or have a light lunch… there is a lot of sentimental association with this little shop. well, there was a small silver and amethyst ring in the shop that she really liked and had wanted for a long time… even more so now that she was moving away and couldn’t just admire it through the glass. in addition, an item from that little shop would have great sentimental value because we have some relationship building memories in that shop. during my last trip to colorado, we were at our antique shop and stopped to look at the ring. it was terribly small… like a 3 or something… I explained to her that not only was it too small, but that the old band was so thin that it would probably break if they tried to size it. she was terribly disappointed, but she bought it… the story, not the ring. I took her to this aveda salon in the bottom of the nicest hotel in town to get her nails done, told her I was going into the office for a little bit, then snuck over to our antique shop to purchase the ring. this was a few weeks ago. I smuggled it back to houston and took it to a jeweler to have it sized to fit her. it was wrapped and all ready for today, but I couldn’t wait and gave it to her a little early. she totally didn’t expect this ring that she had been wanting for so long as a valentine’s gift… especially after accepting that she simply wasn’t going to be able to take a memento from out little antique shop with her when she moved.

she loved it…

Oh, my Lord, Clayton.  It just brings tears to my eyes, really.  It so nice to see a romantic man nowadays, and what you did for her was just simply BEAUTIFUL!
At this point, I’m just hoping to be able to SEE my boyfriend sometime on Valentine’s Day…

I wish you two all the happiness in the world!

Linz  on  02/14  at  02:54 PM

Ha!

I was hoping the countdown was something like that.  What a beautiful gift too… You better pat yourself on the back for that one.

I love stories that reaffirm my belief that love can be fairytale-like in its proportions.  It reminds me never to settle til I find such a love.

Congratulations to you two.
