Here kitty kitty…

Here kitty kitty...
That photo is probably my favorite from the weekend. It could stand a wee bit of USM, but I'm not too worried about it right now. I'm sleepy sleepy. PLNS (post lunch nap syndrome) has taken me. I had the Chinese buffet at "no MSG" Chin Tao. I think I'll go grab a big 'ole cuppa dark drip to smooth out my digestive consciousness. Here are a few more that I've had time to RAW convert since yesterday:

Serval

Jailhouse Blues

MY fucking cardboard box!

Hmm... yes. Sit here and start from the beginning... tell me everything...

the pack is on the prowl

anyone seen my glass eye?
Actually, there are a few more... a rare pigeon that has a freaky hair-do, more cheetah angles, a really neat Indonesian Tiger shot that is grainy and nasty, a cool loking horned owl headshot that was taken by accident and slightly blurry, etc. I'm trying not to post as much crap. Anyhoo, hope you liked them. Ciao.

You see what I mean

You see what I mean about being a lazy poster? Sunday, EL and I got a ton of information on Texas state parks from Texas Parks and Wildlife before heading to Sheldon Lake. It was incredibly cold. Bone chilling cold. It's the humidity that just makes it feel cold. The humidity here makes the winters suck. I barely remember what I did Saturday. I think I went to the under-reconstruction Arboretum. Hmmm. Sunday night was a big poker night at Harry's for his birthday. I got pretty drunk. Monday morning was my solo zoo trip. I rolled down while everyone was sleeping and before the place became a mad house with free admissions. It was 39 degrees when I arrived. That makes for one cold ass tripod. So far this morning has been uber-shitty. Joe is out sick and it seems like everyone is gone for this, that, or the other. My Director had this agenda that needed to be done by 9:00 and he was incapable of completing the items himself. Since I was the only guy here, I drew the short straw. I hate that kind of shit. So, after jumping through my ass for him, I started weeding through the pile of other shit I had to do this morning... taking calls to help people with emergent issues... blah blah blah... this moment (see timestamp of post) is the first chance I have had to sit back and exhale since I arrived this morning. I'm a starvin' Marvin too. I've posted about sniglets many times, but I really think there should be a sniglet for when you find a link or post on someone's blog that originally came from another (or many other) blogs and you repost it. It is a relatively common phenomenon. Anyhoo, here's my contribution... read it at Syd's, but she got it somewhere else... funny as hell... THINGS THAT IT TOOK ME OVER 50 YEARS TO LEARN by Dave Barry 1. Never, under any circumstances, take a sleeping pill and a laxative on the same night. 2. If you had to identify, in one word, the reason why the human race has not achieved, and never will achieve, its full potential, that word would be "meetings." 3. There is a very fine line between "hobby" and "mental illness." 4. People who want to share their religious views with you almost never want you to share yours with them. 5. You should not confuse your career with your life. 6. Nobody cares if you can't dance well. Just get up and dance. 7. Never lick a steak knife. 8. The most destructive force in the universe is gossip. 9. You will never find anybody who can give you a clear and compelling reason why we observe daylight savings time. 10. You should never say anything to a woman that even remotely suggests that you think she's pregnant unless you can see an actual baby emerging from her at that moment. 11. There comes a time when you should stop expecting other people to make a big deal about your birthday. That time is age eleven. 12. The one thing that unites all human beings, regardless of age, gender, religion, economic status or ethnic background, is that, deep down inside, we ALL believe that we are above average drivers. 13. A person, who is nice to you, but rude to the waiter, is not a nice person. (This is very important. Pay attention. It never fails.) 14. Your friends love you anyway. 15. Never be afraid to try something new. Remember that a lone amateur built the Ark. A large group of professionals built the Titanic. 16. FINAL Thought for the day: Men are like a fine wine. They start out as grapes, and it's up to women to stomp the crap out of them until they turn into something acceptable to have dinner with.

I went the Arboretum to

I went the Arboretum to test my new teleconverter. I got the Canon EF 2x TC over the 1.4x despite the many reviews that state clearly that the 2x is optically softer. I figure that eventually I'll get the 1.4x as well, but for now I wanted the extra reach. I learned a few lessons this afternoon at the 'ole bird feeder using the TC... most importantly, don't shoot wide open on the long end... stop it down. Most of the images are soft, but it is directly due to my technique. I'll get used to it. It was my first time stacking it behind the 70-200. Here are a few samples:

Last night’s Guy show was

Last night's Guy show was awesome as usual. After work I headed to Blanco's with Joe and Dirk. EL stopped in for a bit before the two of us met Michael, Steph, Jon, and Chris over at McGonigel's Mucky Duck for the show. I was sans camera because I planned on drinking. It was really a great show... I'm constantly amazed by how talented he is. Anyhoo, it's still rainy here. There were some major accidents cluttering I-45 with emergency vehicles last night in the rain. This morning is overcast and wet... with that constant drizzle you just can't escape. I'm happy to be off with nothing to do... but I really need to find something to do with my day. The rain de-motivates me for sure. EL and I are off for a walk. Maybe I'll go take some photos this afternoon. pee ess... tonight's show at the Duck is Hayes Carll... it should be awesome. I wish I could go!

I’m a lazy-ass poster. Today

I'm a lazy-ass poster. Today was basically a blur. I was busy at work until lunch-ish. I met my beautiful missez for a some shopping and food before not making my doctor's appointment. I think he was golfing or something. I did find my way to my first corporate headshot shoot over at Sam's place of employment. Here's an example of my trying to keep Sam's ugly mug from breaking my lenses...
beer ain't drinkin'
He's a monkey. Tomorrow's Friday... and I digs me some Friday. Sleep tight.

Psychohooptidoodle. I’ve discovered that listening

Psychohooptidoodle. I've discovered that listening to incredibly violent music while driving in traffic is soothing and tends to make me drive slow and cautiously while electronica makes me speed. Odd. I had lunch at Kyber at Kirby/Richmond... the best lamb in town... seriously. I dig Indian food. Anita and Dwayne gave EL and I a package of East Indian Vindaloo Masala this morning, so that's what made me think of going. I'm stuffed like a Christmas turkey. EL and I are shopping for new auto insurance this week. I hate the way sue-happy motorists have driven insurance companies into panic when writing new policies. They practically need a DNA sample these days after checking your insurance history, driving history, credit report, etc. for the last 5 years. Hoops for us all to jump through. Work has been pleasantly busy and I'm back in a nice windowed office again so I can hide from the minions of CorpoHell and actually accomplish real tasks. I long for a job with a better QoL stance. This shit is like prison without the rape in the showers. I'm only working a half day tomorrow... w00t. This weekend is only a couple of days away. It's a three day weekend. Rinse and repeat.

Goddamn I’m in a fucking

Goddamn I'm in a fucking shitty mood this morning. I think it has to do with my complete and utter dissatisfaction with my work environment. The only redeeming factor is that I make a decent wage, but this is becoming, if not already, the most shining singular example in my life of where happiness cannot be bought. I am not going to let this post dwindle into yet another tired rant about my management incompetence straight up the chain to the CIO or how culling the copious fat in my organization might be the best step toward moral redemption here... instead, I'm just going to state that I'm very unhappy and leave it at that. Done. So, after Lisa's comment about Texas and wide open spaces yesterday, I was thinking about the vast expanse of this state and how underappreciated it is by it's residents. I mean, we have coastal beaches and arid deserts. We have rocky hill country and humid forest. We have panhandle plateau that sees snow in the winter and border valleys that live in three digit temperatures in the summer. We have rivers and waterfalls... wildlife and protected parks. What a neat trip it would be to actually explore the state! I mean rally dig in and discover. I think I'd like to do that with anywhere I live... not take for granted... that's the key. So anyhoo, I digressed from what I started to say... when on top of Enchanted Rock, I took a few photos to stitch. It's a shitty job because I was doing more from documentation that art, but you get the gist of it. Since it's being served from a slow Net connection, be ready to go to lunch, have some coffee, take a nap, read a little book, and wait before you click on the link, but here you go Lisa: not "urban sprawl" (quick snapshots, unedited, stitched, sensor dust and all... cropped a lot to clip edge distortion... 21964x1762 or about 21.2MB).

Zowie… another weekend passes in

Zowie... another weekend passes in a blink. EL and I drove to scenic Fredericksburg this weekend and became gluttonous Snitzlevores. The town is famous for it's German subculture that begs tourist attention. We ate and drank and were merry home based from my sister's apartment. Saturday we did the outdoor thing and climbed Enchanted Rock. There is a lone tree at the summit with a moon for an eye.
Unlike many places in Texas, Fredericksburg sports a open container clause to local legislation that allows you to drink freely in the streets as you peruse the local shops and such. You may even carry out unfinished wine, beer, etc. from restaurants and continue to imbibe as you walk about. It's quite refreshing. update 7:55 pee emm... original:
