"You are not your job. You are not the money in your bank account. You are not the car you drive. You are not how much money is in your wallet. You are not your fucking khakis. You are the all-singing, all-dancing crap of the world."
Meetings, meetings, and more meetings.
Ugh!
What a completely unproductive day. Well, not entirely unproductive actually, but pretty darned close. I'm working on this project that involves scrubbing the configs of all the routers and switches on the network (several thousand) and auditing them for specific config items. Oye! Sam and I rolled to
Mai's for bar-b-que pork spring rolls at lunch. Yum! Sean's rocking out with his new Christmas gift as I hoped he would and the day is almost over. I'm going to try to get some post-work shopping done before heading north to the land of peace and quiet. I'm headed to Dallas this weekend to meet up with about 7 or 8 other photographers for a two day photo shoot. It should be an awesome time and I'm really excited about it. Hopefully, I'll have some nice photos to share.
Michael is going with me, so between the two of us, we should have some keepers. Tick tock... I'm so sleepy.
You were looking for a photo, here ya go Sean:
I love ignorance. I love how someone can go to a product show or skim through a trade rag and catch a snippet of the buzz surrounding the
SCO lawsuit and have a knee jerk reaction based on lack of understanding and seeped in pure, unbridled ignorance.
98% of everything useful I do at work is done using some flavor of Linux.
My manager just brought the tablets down from on high: The CIO wants all Linux immediately removed from the company.
Never mind just me... oh no... what about embedded Linux in remote net attached security cameras? IDS systems that protect the network running Linux? the external DNS servers that allow everyone in the entire corporation to surf the Internet running Linux? specialized data analysis clusters that crunch like a supercomputer and were tres tres expensive running Linux? business applications that rely on Linux? syslog servers running Linux? network management software feeding data to network control running Linux? data archival equipment that archives firewall logs onto DVD's for long term storage running Linux? Yes, never mind the 4 Mandrake and 1 RedHat systems that support my work on a daily basis...
Fuck ignorance. Fuck this job. Who's hiring?
pee ess...

Ugh. Morning. After an extended day in the office yesterday, I hitched a ride with Joe over to Blanco's for what started to as beer and ended up as straight Crown. Dirk, John, and the regulars were there, but the reason for my swerve off route to suburbia was Dwayne. Superglide showed his face last eve as he rarely does and we raised our glasses in his honor. One EL and Anita arrived, we went on to Dwayne and Anitas apartment for some fabulous homemade Indian food. We all had a great time and I was quite buzzed upon departure. The long journey home revealed my age. I was so sleepy. It was still relatively early (11:30-ish?) and I was mentally fluffing pillows and layering covers. With EL at the wheel and providing conversation, the drive didn't quite seem as long as it could have seemed I'm sure. I did not want to get up this morning. Holy shit. Frankly, I'm disappointed I don't have more vacation days left this calendar year or I would have called in... not because I'm hanging, but because I am tired. Beat tired. I actually feel fine this morning except for the exhaustion. What's up with that? I kissed my beautiful wife goodbye and head for the bus. I was just passing the ramp to the freeway when I got this strong urge to get on... quickly checking for no traffic, I redirected and was in the thick of morning commuters - bumper to bumper - in no time. "Why did I just do that?" I didn't have the answer. A few miles down the road, the lanes opened up and it was smooth sailing all the way to just inside the loop. After 610, traffic started congesting again to rubberneck the stalled bus blocking all traffic in the HOV... the HOV I would have been on had I not sharply redirected my choice of commute this morning. What a cherished coincidence! I rolled on into downtown with no further problems and did miss
Engines (which I
love) to boot! I think this calls for a little caffeine celebration!
A whole lot of nothin'...
This morning was supposed to be the day we all here at Corpo-hell received some clarification regarding our futures here... the message was nothing more than the tap dance of a politician. Action, not words, is what is needed around here. Nothing is clearer than it was 20 minutes ago.
Tomorrow is the big day.
Pause.
Suspense.
Let's hope it's all good news.
Sunday already and more shopping done this morning. You can't go anywhere or do anything without the capture of Saddam invading your surroundings. There is a lot more to do before anyone should start celebrating. EL is off running errands and I'm intent of vegetating in from of the 'puter playing games all afternoon. Scarf number two:
Ciao.
Uneventful Friday night to say the least. I was really tired from a hectic week and just needed some rest. My partner at work was out Friday and I was busy as hell all day. Rest. EL and I did a wee bit of Christmas shopping this morning, but it's cold and rainy out. We were invited to a big Christmas party tonight, but I think we'll stay up north in "the burbs" as the weather has got me down. EL is extremely camera conscious and usually doesn't like me taking her picture, but I managed to get a few recently. I am really interested in working on better portraiture. It's a lot harder than one might think. I need to go get her Christmas present today too. Ugh! I just want to sleep.

I've had this weird shit going on with my computer where every time I try to upload an image to Fotki using ActiveX, my browser crashes... and every time I try to upload an image to Fotki using Java, my computer reboots. Ok, well maybe not every time, but I think it is fucking strange and since I'm putting along on a 1.33, I think it's time for an upgrade. Where's my winning Lotto ticket? Monday's the big day. Monday I could be without a job. Yes sir.
Daddy
likes. Ahhh yes, one of those nifty toys that would be so cool to have in the camera bag, but way down on the 'ole list of things to spoil one's self with... yep. Today has been a bucket of suck. I was so busy all morning troubleshooting a problem that wasn't even mine that I was late to leave for the
mandatory office holiday luncheon. When I was headed out for it, I heard back from the scouts that the line for food was about 45 minutes long. Fuck that. I went and ate Mexican food across the street. What a wonderful lunch... and I didn't even have to fake small talk with anyone I give less than two squirts of piss about talking to...
excrement excellent.
Jose Cuervo Christmas Cookies!!!
1 cup of water
1 tsp baking soda
1 cup of sugar
1 tsp salt
1 cup of brown sugar
1 cup lemon juice
4 large eggs
1 cup nuts
2 cups of dried fruit
1 bottle Jose Cuervo Tequila
Sample the Cuervo to check quality. Take a large bowl, check the Cuervo again, to be sure it is of the highest quality, pour one level cup and drink.
Turn on the electric mixer...Beat one cup of butter in a large fluffy bowl.
Add one teaspoon of sugar...Beat again. At this point it's best to make sure the Cuervo is still OK, try another cup ...just in case.
Turn off the mixerer thingy. Break 2 leggs and add to the bowl and chuck in the cup of dried fruit, Pick the frigging fruit off floor... Mix on the turner. If the fried druit gets stuck in the beaterers just pry it loose with a drewscriver. Sample the Cuervo to check for tonsisticity.
Next, sift two cups of salt, or something. Who giveshz a sheet. Check the Jose Cuervo. Now shift the lemon juice and strain your nuts. Add one table. Add a spoon of sugar, or somefink. Whatever you can find. Greash the oven.
Turn the cake tin 360 degrees and try not to fall over. Don't forget to beat off the turner. Finally, throw the bowl through the window, finish the Cose Juervo and make sure to put the stove in the dishwasher.
CHERRY MISTMAS
hehe...
that's my boys...
I'm so proud.
An
updated list. We're swarming like flies now.
Heh.
Tired. My evenings seem to fly by... blink and it's back to work again. Shit. Anyhoo, I was all excited thinking that tomorrow was Friday until I just realized I'm an idiot. Yes, it has taken me this long. Amazing, isn't it? I think I'm turning Japanese. I think I'm turning Japanese. I really think so.
