Last night was the first freeze of the season. Morning frost was quickly burned off by the warmth of the Sun through clear skies, but the blustery wind still makes ya wanna snuggle up...
Camron and I went out for some photos this morning and I was just off. Everything I took came out looking like total crap (to me). I struggle with those moments because they make me want to delete all the pics off my drive as if a fresh start would make things better. I'm not sure why, but I just took crappy pics. I think I'll just reflect on that the rest of the day and try again tomorrow.
Camron ended up staying another night and we're all off to Sam's for a cookout. I hope everyone is enjoying their long weekend!
What a fabulous holiday. I'm not sure I understand how some people celebrate or don't celebrate Thanksgiving, but for me it's always been an uber-informal event. Friends, family, and food... no uppity anything. My mother and her boyfriend drove up from the coast with my grandmother and my sister drove in from the hill country. EL prepared some excellent accompaniment dishes while Bob made the turkey. He is a Turducken ninja, so in the same style, he made this deboned turkey with pork roast inside it. The last time I had one of his turkeys, he had filled the whole, deboned turkey with a whole, deboned chicken and then substituted sausage for the duck. When you slice it, there are distinct layers of carnivorous delight. I am a Meatasaurus Rex. We played games last night and got liquored up... all of us. I love drinking with the family. Y'all southerners know what I'm talkin' about. Today was a whole lot of work around the house. EL and Camron went shopping and errand running. Bob, Mom, and I worked on putting up some new sheetrock in the den and trimming trees in the yard. The tree guys quoted EL over $700 to do the job... um... no. My lazy ass heavy trash day guys won't take lawn rubbish unless it is boxed, so I have to find more boxes to contain the rest of the wood waiting to be chopped up. We did some additional Christmas shopping without straying too far form the house into the land of frenzied sale hunters. Tonight is probably a quiet evening... champagne, snacks, and movies. I hope the weather holds out so I can go snippety snap tomorrow. I'm tired. Thankful indeed, but tired.
Happy Turkey Day!
Be thankful and all that... Sean, I wish you were here.
Bianca is giving me the "Don't take my photo, Dad." look...
I have the hiccups. I hate the hiccups. I have had them on and off all day. Poker night last night was awesome... a great time. I'm getting out of work early today to start the four day weekend. w00t! I'm so damn ready.
LMAO. Sad shit.
Funny... but sad. Thanks for the link
Katie.
The day is a blur. I was busy pretty much non-stop until Joe and I rolled out for lunch a little while ago. Now I feel completely unmotivated. Headache. I have just a few hours to go. Woohoo!
Same flower... just with a visitor this time. I didn't have time to take this shot again with better flash exposure. Oh well... live and learn.
Ugh!! I need a drink!
Tick-tock! Let's round up to happy hour!!
Did I post
this shit? Lunch was cool... literally. I checked the temp before walking out and the airport was reporting 39 degrees. Damn. The wind is kickin' too. I had two giant slices from New York Pizzeria which equates to almost a whole pie at some places and am chasing it with a triple grande eggnog latte from Chez Satan. Now that I am properly medicated, I'm ready for the afternoon... and triple bypass surgery. Yeah.
There was a 10 year old boy walking down the sidewalk dragging a flattened frog on a string behind him. He walked up to a house of ill repute and knocked on the door. When the Madam answered it, she saw the little boy and asked what he wanted. He said, "I want to have sex with one of the women inside. I have the money and I'm not leaving until I do." The Madam figured, why not, so she told him to come in. Once in, she told him to pick any of the girls he liked. He asked, "Do any of the girls have any diseases?" Of course, the Madam said no, but the boy replied, "I heard all the men talking about having to get shots after making it with Amber. So THAT'S the girl I want!" Since the little boy was so adamant and had the money to pay for it, the Madam told him to go to the first room on the right. He headed down the hall dragging the squashed frog behind him. Ten minutes later he came back, still dragging the frog, paid the Madam, and headed out the door. The Madam stopped him and asked, Why did you pick the only girl in the place with a disease, instead of one of the others? "He said, "Well, if you must know, tonight when I get home, my parents are going out to a restaurant to eat, leaving me at home with my babysitter. After they leave, my babysitter will have sex with me because she just happens to be very fond of little boys. She will get the disease that I just caught. When Mom and Dad get back, Dad will take the babysitter home. On the way, he'll jump her bones, and he'll catch the disease. Then when Dad gets home from the babysitters, he and Mom will go to bed and have sex, and Mom will catch it. In the morning when Dad goes to work, the Milkman will deliver the milk, have a quickie with Mom and catch the disease and he's the son-of-a-bitch who ran over my frog!"
There are so many people out this week for Thanksgiving. It's quiet... which is nice... but distracting. I am getting interrupted with trivial shit and can't focus on the task at hand: standards documents. I hate this shit. I'm not a technical writer. Companies who strive to do this correctly have staff dedicated to the task. My place of employment does everything half assed, so I'm not surprised that this is another example of their somethin'-for-nuthin' mentality. Hmmm... let's take some guys that are already busy with real work and load them up with writing standards that no one will follow anyway and then throw idle threats at them when the aforementioned real work gets in the way of real progress of the ridiculous standards authoring. I love it here. Thanksgiving is gonna rock. My mom and her boyfriend are coming to town with my grandmother and my sister is driving in for the weekend. It should be great! EL is planning some nifty dishes and I can't wait for the time off. I know... it's only Monday, but a two day weekend doesn't provide the healing for which I've been searching. I took a few photos this weekend. You can find them at 13th Stone... just click "last uploads"... comments appreciated. I need to get back to my fruitless typing on the chariot of carpel tunnel inevitability.
So I was just talking with Joe about his trip to see ZZ Top on Saturday at the Summit/Compaq Center... he had 10th row center stage seats. It was a show to be seen given the bands history in Houston and especially that venue. They helped send the place off into the world back in the 70's and now they rocked out the final show before the stadium keys are turned over to the Lakewood Church and their 20,000 Kool-aid drinkers. Thus ends my bashing of organized crime religion. One only-in-Texas kinda thing that I thought was awesome was for the encore set, they played Sharp Dressed Man with a guest drummer... Gov. Rick Perry. Hehe. Regardless of how I feel about the Governor, that is pretty cool.
Where has this weekend gone?
